The basis of ruin is the leaderboard, which ranks members based on their skill, luck and magic stats (the ranking points are the skill, luck a magic points added together). Stats are won by making selections, and riches can be won in challenges and tournaments, which can be used to buy items from the gift shop. (Further increase your stats and ranking).
Selections are the core aspect of the game and are made from the home page. Anyone who is registered and logged in can select for meetings up to 4 days in advance and acquire skill, luck and magic points for good selections.
The selection cards & challenges are to be completed before the daily cut off time (11am E.S.T) for them to have effect in the days racing. Once the daily cut off time has elapsed, no challenges or selections past the cut off time will have any result for that days racing.
Points are awarded for the following selection results:
Challenges build on the selections, by adding a personal element between members. Submitting a challenge against another RUIN member means you will need to out-select them in the race meeting set down for that challenge. Challenges to other members can be made on the leaderboard page and by clicking on the member name in the chat room. The challenger must select two meeting options for the person you are challenging to choose from.
Once a challenge is made, the person challenged must respond to the challenge, by either accepting or declining on the home page and selecting the challenge meeting from the two options provided from the challenger.
Once the race results have been posted, the total difference in leaderboard points between the two members will be awarded as riches to the winning member.
Note: All challenges & responses must be completed before the daily cut off time (11am E.S.T) of the selection cards, for the challenge to take effect.
Tournaments work like tournaments from any other game: participants compete in the tournament against each other to win. When there is a tournament being held, you will see a note on the homepage for at least a week beforehand where you can nominate to participate in the tournament. Once you nominate for a tournament, you just have to wait for the tournament to begin and start selecting.
For every meeting that falls within a tournaments date range, you will earn riches equivalent to twice your selection points. That means for a meeting where you earned 10 skill and 5 luck you will earn 30 riches in the tournament, and these winnings are used to determine your position in the tournament leaderboard. The riches can be spent immediately without affecting your position on the tournament leaderboard.
Once you have won some riches, you can buy items from the gift shop.
As noted above, your leaderboard ranking is based on your skill, luck and magic stats. The gift shop is the way to convert your riches won in challenges and tournaments into skill, luck and magic points which will increase your leaderboard ranking.
